This video shows a simple answer to a complicated problem. Lighting in third world countries. It makes me think that there are some small things we personally can help do to solve bigger problems. I'm excited to find more solutions similar to this.
This clip is a trailer to the Documentary Street Dreams. It aims to explore the world of human trafficking and open our eyes to what is happening in the world around us (and our own countries). "Their bodies may belong to others, but their dreams are still their own.",
Occupy Wall Street has become Global. There are protests popping up all over the world. We are in the middle of history being made. People have had enough with huge corporations, and they are finally doing something about it (or at least trying to). I have been following the occupy movement very closely. Especially Occupy Portland from back home, and if I was going to Portland State University like I had originally planned I myself would have joined in with the protesting. This is a clip from the inside perspective of the Occupy movement.
Dove shows us how body image in our world is distorted by society and media. Body image (bad body image) is a too common thing in the world we live in. From eating disorders, to steroids. It has become a global issue.
For my final project for International Studies, Crystal and I are doing a presentation on child brides in India. National Geographic along with photographer Stephanie Sinclair who spent eight years investigating the phenomenon of child marriage in India, Yemen, Afghanistan, Nepal and Ethiopia. Her video produced with National Geographic shows the horrors, and calls the word to action. For me this presentation has been very emotional, I have learned so much and it seems the more I learn the more I want to take action to stand against child brides.
As an American citizen, it angers me that my country still has not legalized same sex marriage.. This video gives a relatable image of gay couples.
Slow down by Wyclef Jean, is a song about world issues. It has inspired me to think when I listen to it, I hope it inspires you as well.
Playing for Change is an organization made up of musicians all around the world who want to play their music for a change. "Playing for Change is a multimedia movement created to inspire, connect, and bring peace to the world through music. The idea for this project arose from a common belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. No matter whether people come from different geographic, political, economic, spiritual or ideological backgrounds, music has the universal power to transcend and unite us as one human race. And with this truth firmly fixed in our minds, we set out to share it with the world." (playingforchange.com) The idea behind it is amazing, as well as the music created. This video is shocking. I believe something is to be said about our society when body image is so bad that girls as young as thirteen (and their parents allow them) get plastic surgery.

The link above is to a site called Global Girlfriend here is their mission statement:
"Our fair-trade boutique offers a line of trend-setting, women-made, fair-trade products including stylish apparel, accessories and gifts with one purpose -- helping women in need help themselves. We believe passionately that economic opportunity for women holds the promise for real change in the world; because when women have an income, they reinvest in themselves and in their children's health, education and nutrition, building stronger families and communities over time. Many women try desperately to make a living selling their artisan-quality goods but find that they have little access to market opportunities. Through fair-trade practices, Global Girlfriend brings the work of these disadvantaged groups directly to you. Global Girlfriend believes in forming long-term partnerships that provide women a fair living wage with equal employment opportunities, healthy and safe working conditions, technical assistance and development strategies to foster prosperity and reduce poverty.
The charity royalty from each purchase at Global Girlfriend is directed to Camfed's seed money micro-grant and micro-credit program. Camfed's seed money micro-grant program is run by young women for young women, creating a bond of female solidarity that is integral to its success. Young women in the seed money program receive an initial micro-grant, which they do not have to repay, in order to launch a small business venture, benefiting themselves, their families, and their entire communities."
I have enjoyed every purchase I have made from this site, and encourage you to do the same.

This is a link to website where people all around post free stuff so that others can use what they no longer want. The link I have provided is to Saint John (the closest city to St. Stephens on the site) I thought it would be a good idea to get the word out there, and save not only money but resources in our ever-depleting world.

- Women Made
We know that economic opportunities for women holds the promise for real change because with a sustainable income over time, a woman invests in her family's health and education -- things that really help break the cycle of poverty. - Fair Trade
We also know that for women to thrive, those opportunities must reflect fair working conditions, many times non-traditional ones like working from home, and access to resources that provide a gateway into the global economy - Eco-Friendly
We share one earth and it must be healthy for us all to thrive. We support women in producing products that solve their community environmental issues, producing healthier children, rivers, skies and world.
